Laser Tattoo Removal Pre & Post Care
Pre Laser Tattoo Removal Care:
- Minimum of 6-8 weeks intervals between tattoo removal sessions to ensure effective ink absorption into the bloodstream.
- There is no set maximum amount of time between sessions, allowing flexibility based on individual needs and preferences.
- NO SUN exposure between sessions on the tattoo – it is advisable not to expose the tattoo or area to sunlight until a year has passed from the final session.
- Enhance blood circulation by massaging the area between sessions to aid the tattoo removal process.
- Avoid any form of friction on the treated area for at least one week after a session to promote optimal healing and recovery.
- The typical number of sessions required for tattoo removal averages around six sessions.
- Several elements, including Fitzpatrick Skin type, the specific body area of the tattoo, ink depth, tattoo age, ink colour, and individual immune system, play a role in determining the number of sessions and the time needed for successful tattoo removal.
- To achieve the best outcomes, it’s important not to have a tan during a session, and exposing the skin to tanning between sessions raises the risk of hypo/hyperpigmentation.
- For optimal tattoo results, avoid tanning between sessions, as this will prompt the need for an extra patch test.
- For the best results, refrain from applying fake tan to the treatment area in the 2-3 weeks leading up to your session.
- On the day of the treatment, avoid using any oil or moisturiser, ensuring the skin remains free of any products.
- For a more comfortable experience, use topical numbing cream if the patch test was painful. Apply it correctly: 2 hours before treatment for Emla 5% and Denela, or 30 minutes prior to treatment for LMX.
- Generously apply the cream, ensuring it’s covered with cling film or Tegaderm to prevent drying. Keep the covering until entering the treatment room.
Post Laser Tattoo Removal Care:
- For optimal results, maintain the Tegaderm bandage for as long as possible to minimise friction and decrease the risk of scarring. Tegaderm, a medical-grade bandage, facilitates heat dissipation from the skin while shielding it from external elements.
- Do not pick or pop blisters or scabs, as doing this can lead to scarring, pigmentation or discolouration.
- In case bleeding extends beyond the bandage, maintain the gauze in position and regularly replace the bandage to mitigate the risk of infection. Should you have concerns about potential infection, promptly contact the clinic for advice.
- 48 hours post-treatment, gently wash the treated area with a mild soap, pat it dry, and avoid rubbing.
- For optimal protection, apply Vaseline to the treated area twice daily for a week.
- To prevent friction, it’s advisable to keep the treated area covered, particularly in regions prone to friction, like the hips and feet.
- Swelling in distal extremities like legs, ankles, feet, hands, and arms can be more pronounced. If you notice significant swelling, elevate the affected area to facilitate drainage of fluid buildup, particularly during nighttime.
- After the treated area has fully healed and the skin is no longer broken, gently apply Bio Oil twice daily with a light massage until the day before your next treatment. This promotes increased blood flow to the region, facilitating the faster removal of recently broken ink particles.
- If you observe any changes in skin colour, you might need over-the-counter hydrocortisone 1% cream available at pharmacies. Apply it twice daily for a two-week period.
- If you are concerned about the healing or progress of your treatment, please send a photo to the clinic. We will assess the treated area and provide you with personalised feedback.

- Swelling particularly in the hair follicle area: this can last up to 7 – 21 days after your treatment
- You may feel heat and itchiness in the treatment area: this can last from 7 – 21 days and may be mild to severe depending on the individual client

Redness Reduction Laser Pre & Post Care
Pre Redness Reduction Laser Care:
- The area to be treated should be free from make-up, perfume, and body or face creams.
- Please stop the use of topical retinoids and other strong cosmetic products for at least 2 weeks before treatment and the use of glycolic products for at least 7 days before treatment.
- There should be no active or fake tan in the area to be treated. Use of sunbeds or prolonged exposure to sunlight is not allowed in the month prior to treatment and an SPF30+ must be used on the area between treatments. Suntans must be left to fade completely before treatment can start. Fake tans must also be fully faded before treatment can commence.
- We reserve the right to charge for any appointment booked but abandoned due to active suntan or fake tan.
- A medical history is taken at consultation, but we rely on you to inform us of any changes to this. We need to know of any medication you are taking including those bought from a chemist or herbalist.
- Make sure that you arrive in good time for your appointment; this will allow us to pre-cool the skin if this should be required.
Post Redness Reduction Laser Care:
- In order to minimise skin heating and to reduce the likelihood of skin reactions, the treatment area may be cooled before, during and after the procedure. If the area still feels hot at home, you can apply a cold flannel or cool pack. Do not allow ice packs or ice into direct contact with the skin.
- Following treatment, you may experience mild stinging, dryness, itching, mild grazing, flakiness, sensitivity to UV or slight redness. This is completely normal and should settle over the next few days.
- Occasionally you may experience swelling or bruising and this can last anything from 1-2 days up to 1-2 weeks. If you experience swelling, it is usually worse one to two days following treatment. If it follows a treatment to a facial area, sleeping with your head raised on pillows will minimise its appearance. Cool packs will also help to reduce the swelling. If your skin is particularly sensitive and prone to histamine reactions, you may also wish to consider taking an antihistamine medication.
- Following vascular treatments a bruise may appear at the treated area. This may last up to 15 days and as the bruise fades there may be brown discolouration of the skin. This usually fades in 1-3 months. When larger vessels are treated, they may take on a darker colour. Again, this may take up to four weeks to resolve as the body re-absorbs the damaged vessels.
- Following pigmentation treatments, the lesion may appear darker – this is normal. Over the following weeks it may form microcrusts which will flake away over the coming days. Do not exfoliate the area and allow the microcrusts to fall away naturally.
- Make-up can be applied after several hours if the skin is not sore or broken. However, we advise caution if the area is feeling sensitive. Remove make up carefully as rubbing the skin can cause irritation or infection. If the skin at the treatment area becomes broken, then make-up should be avoided.
- Care should be taken to avoid trauma to the treated area for 4 or 5 days after treatment. Avoid strenuous activities, sauna and steam, excessively hot baths, massaging etc. and avoid wearing tight clothing on the treated area.
- Wash and bathe as normal but take cool showers rather than hot baths. The skin should be patted dry and not rubbed. Use Lynton Light Soothe serum or Aloe Vera Gel to reduce irritation and keep the area moisturised, and the skin protected. If there is any discomfort, treat the area as you would sunburn.
- Use an SPF 30+ to protect the area from sunlight as much as possible between treatments and for at least one month after treatment ends. Failure to do this can lead to sunburn and hyper pigmentation of the treated area. (Most cases of changes in pigmentation occur when the treated area has been exposed to sunlight, or in people with darker skin types).
- If blistering occurs, contact the clinic immediately for further advice. Keep the area clean and dry and allow to heal naturally. Do not use any lotions or creams on open skin as this may increase the risk of infection. DO NOT pick grazes or blisters – as this may increase the chance of a scar occurring. Once the skin has healed, a high protection sunscreen should be used daily for 12 months to prevent pigmentation changes to the skin.
- Please avoid the use of strong, active skin care such as Retinoids and Glycolic Acid for 1 week post-treatment
- If you are concerned about the healing or progress of your treatment, please send a photo to the clinic. We will assess the treated area and provide you with personalised feedback.
Fillers

ONDA Pre & Post Care
Pre Care:
- Avoid direct sun exposure to the treatment area 7 days before the treatment.
- Given the high degree of absorption of microwaves by water, it is recommended to suspend the use of moisturizing and softening creams in the area to be treated at 48 hours before the session with Onda. In this way it is avoided to have a greater absorption of the CoolwavesTM in the superficial layers of the skin and, at the same time, the penetration to the adipose tissue is increased.
- You should drink 2-3 litres of water a day to facilitate the drainage of interstitial fluids. It is recommended to start this 2-3 days before the treatment and continue the following day.
- Shower or bathe the day of treatment. Your skin must be free of all makeup, lotions, creams and body oils.
- Remove all jewellery and piercings pertinent to the treatment area.
- If you have very thick & dense hair in the treatment areas please trim or shave the areas at home before your appointment.
- Be sure to discuss your medical history and medications you take with your treatment provider.
Post Care:
- You may experience mildly pink or red skin, tenderness or discomfort, swelling, tissue firmness or nodules in the treated areas. These are all expected side effects which usually resolve without medical intervention.
- Tenderness may occur as early as the day of treatment and can last two weeks or even longer.
- If needed, use a cold compress to help relieve tenderness.
- For body areas, if nodules occur, they typically last for days or 6 (six) months or longer, depending on the size of the nodule. While uncommon, some nodules may be permanent.
- Gently massage the area twice a day for 5-10 minutes. Massage should be continued until your next treatment or for 12 weeks if you have only one treatment.
- The patient should avoid direct exposure to the sun after the treatment (for erythema ab igne) for 2 days.
- If the skin is slightly pink or red in areas following the treatment, the patient has to avoid hot water when washing until any erythema has subsided.
- It is suggested, for the patient, to follow an appropriate healthy diet and do a moderate physical activity. You may resume your normal daily activities, including exercise, immediately after your Onda treatment.
- Staying well hydrated and engaging in light physical activity helps mobilize the disrupted fat for processing through the lymphatic system. We encourage you to drink at least 2 litres of water a day and take a daily walk or continue your regular exercise routine.
- It is advisable not to treat again the same area before 15 days.
- Contact your practitioner if you have any concerns about your treatment areas such as increasing tenderness or swelling several days after your treatment, or if you develop blisters, hardened areas or nodules.
