Cryotherapy is a proven technique for removing skin tags, warts, verrucae, pigmentation, milia, cherry angioma and more. It uses liquid nitrogen to freeze the skin tag. The process is easy, comfortable and over in a matter of minutes. Several lesions can be treated safely in one session including multiple seborrhoeic warts, moles and skin tags on all areas of the body.

What Can Be Treated with Cryotherapy?

We can generally treat: Skin Tags, Cherry Angiomas, Fibromas, Keratosis, Cholesterol Deposits, Calcium Bumps, Broken Capillaries, Milia & more.

Following consultation and examination of your skin, our practitioner will advise on the most effective treatment plan. Several lesions can be treated safely in one session including multiple anal skin tags, clusters of genital warts and pearly penile papules.

Further treatments may be required after the initial Cryotherapy session; we will schedule a follow up review at 4-6 weeks to review your results following the Cryotherapy procedure. Any further treatments performed at review appointments are inclusive in the price you pay at your initial appointment.

How Does Cryotherapy Works?

Cryotherapy is medical non-surgical treatment involving the removal of skin lesions by using liquid nitrogen to freeze the skin cells until they die. The freezing treatment normally involves 5-30 seconds of the liquid spray being applied with the CryoPen™; a further freezing treatment can be applied after a short break dependent on the skin type and the nature of the problem.

In the days following the CryoPen™ treatment, the treated skin lesion may become darker and will begin to crust. The crusted skin lesion will eventually flake away; this could take anywhere between 1-6 weeks. Healing time varies from patient to patient and is largely dependent on the skin type and the skin lesion that has been treated. A follow-up appointment will be scheduled for 4-6 weeks following your treatment to review the results of the Cryotherapy and assess whether a further treatment as required. Any treatments performed at review appointments are free of charge.

Is There Any Downtime?

The treated area will look different in color, so you will want to plan on using tinted moisturizer to cover the treated area.

Following Cryotherapy treatment, the area of skin will be slightly swollen, red and tender. In the hours that follow, swelling may increase a little which is part of the initial active process of skin cell death. This swelling will steadily subside over the next few days.

In the case of anal, vaginal or labial skin tags, the treated lesion may remain a little fuller compared to the original skin tag, this will steadily reduce with each treatment with the lesion reducing in size overall.

Healing time varies from patient to patient and is largely dependent on the size and nature of the skin lesion that has been treated.

AFTERCARE

To reduce the risk of infection it is important to keep the treated area as hygienically clean as possible. We ask that you refrain from picking, peeling or pulling the area of treatment, to let it heal on its own. Within a few weeks, the skin will heal and the treated area will return to normal skin quality.

Mild pain or discomfort in the area treated is common in the first few days following treatment but this should not restrict returning to work or normal daily activities. Paracetamol is advised as an analgesic if required, 1g can be taken up to four times daily.

How Many Cryotherapy Sessions Do I Need?

Some lesions such as large moles and skin tags in intimate areas are likely to require more than one Cryotherapy treatment. Some warts and verrucae may require 4 or more treatments. At your follow-up appointment with our team, the results of the Cryotherapy treatment will be reviewed to assess whether a further treatment as required. Any further treatments performed at review appointments are inclusive in the price you pay at your initial appointment so there are no additional fees to pay.

When Will I See Results?

We advise full healing time could be up to 4-6 weeks although some smaller lesions may heal in less than 4 weeks. Healing time varies from patient to patient and is largely dependent on the skin type and the nature of the skin lesion that has been treated.

It is absolutely essential to apply sunblock (SPF 50+) to sun exposed areas such as the face, neck and hands until the area has completely healed and repigmented to your normal skin tone. Application of sunblock is essential following treatment to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation (darkening of the skin) of the area of skin treated and to ensure optimum healing.
