FAQs
Laser Hair Removal
Patients undergo an initial consultation before treatment. During the consultation your Laser Hair Removal specialist will explain the treatment process, examine the areas of concern and gather some medical history details. They will also answer any questions you may have regarding Laser Hair Removal, and inform you of the likely number of treatments and costs to achieve optimum results. Upon wishing to proceed, you will be asked to sign a consent form and to undergo a test patch (the test patch will cost £25 which is then deductible from your treatment cost).
We recommend starting with a course of 8-10 treatments. The number of treatments you will need is dependent on many factors: the area being treated, the type of hair being treated, systemic factors such as medications, medical conditions, stress & hormonal influences such as PCOS for example. You will need at least 6-10 treatments to achieve optimum results. Once you achieve the maximum reduction of 80-90%, you will require maintenance treatments. A minimum of 3 maintenance treatments a year is recommended, but this can vary per client.
While laser hair removal can delay or inhibit the hairs from growing, it’s not always a permanent solution to unwanted hair – unless the follicle is completely destroyed. You’ll usually undergo between 6 and 10 sessions to notice a significant reduction, as well as maintenance treatments.
What are the pre-care guidelines for laser hair removal?
Do not bleach or use depilatory cream for at least 4-6 weeks prior to your 1st treatment and stop using for the duration of the laser treatment.
No waxing, plucking, or threading at least 1 month prior to your treatment and stop these methods of hair removal for the duration of your laser treatment.
Shaving or cutting the hair is the only method of hair removal.
You MUST shave the area to be treated 24 hours before your laser treatment.
AHA/BHA facial/body scrub is recommended 1 week prior to and after your laser treatment.
Do not exfoliate the area being treated 2 days before and after your laser treatment.
Laser treatments cannot be done if the client has false or residue of false/natural tan on the area on the day of treatment.
You must use a recommended broad-spectrum SPF on all areas being treated when exposed to daylight.
No lotions or oils should be used on the area prior to your laser treatment.
Therapie Clinic cannot be responsible for shaving, this is up to the client. We cannot do the treatment on the day if the area is not prepared.
Always inform your laser specialist of any change in medication or medical history before your laser treatment begins.
Please make sure fake tan is not present on day of appointment and has been fully removed.
Please inform your laser specialist of any tattoos you may have or get through the duration of your treatment including semi-permanent make-up such as lips and eyebrows.
No antihistamines or anti-inflammatories should be taken 24 hours prior to the treatment.
Immediately after your Cynosure Elite Plus treatment, you may notice the following normal expected responses reactions in the treatment area: Redness: this can last up to 7 days after your treatment.
Swelling particularly in the hair follicle area: this can last up to 7 days after your treatment.
You may feel heat and itchiness in the treatment area: this can last up to 7 days.
Darkening of pigment: Areas of skin with pigment may appear darker initially. Although these responses on the skin may feel very strong, these are normal expected responses to the treatment. Please make sure you are clear on the steps you should be taking to make sure you protect the treated area.
Avoid touching, scratching or picking the treated area.
Keep the area cool and wear loose clothing e.g. do not wear tights or jeans.
Apply Thérapie Post Laser Aid following treatment as often as you like.
Only Mineral-Based makeup can be used directly after the treatment. All other makeup should be avoided for 24 hours.
Avoid sun exposure for a minimum of 1 week after the treatment.
Use a Broad Spectrum SPF at all times.
Do not apply deodorant for 24hrs after the treatment.
Avoid very hot baths or showers for 24hrs.
Avoid steam rooms & saunas for 48hrs.
Avoid swimming in strongly chlorinated water for 48hrs.
Avoid treatments in the same area such as chemical peels, injectables, or derma pen treatments for 4 weeks.
You can use our recommended AHA/BHA Exfoliating Body/facial Cleanser to help exfoliate the affected hair. This should be used 3 days after treatment and then be used 3 times per week. This product will help the skin appear brighter and smoother!
A laser is a concentrated beam of light that we use to target your unwanted hair. The light is converted to heat when it’s absorbed by the pigment in each hair, and this causes damage to the follicles where the hairs grow. This damage reduces future hair growth. You will be given eye protection while the treatment is being carried out.
You can have Laser when you have your period however, we request that you wear a tampon during the treatment.
As laser is a heat treatment, it is important to keep the skin as cool as possible post treatment. The below responses are normal to laser. The cooler you keep the skin, the quicker your skin will go back to its normal state:
Swelling
Itchiness
Redness
Darkening of freckles
Swollen follicles (PFO)
You are not required to shave for your consultation appointment. We advise having some hair growth in the area so your hair suitability can be assessed.
Some medications are contraindicated to Laser Hair removal. Please contact us directly if you are currently taking any medication and we will advise you further.
In order for there to be hair in the follicles to treat, at least four weeks must pass between the last waxing, plucking, laser or IPL Hair Removal treatment. During the course of treatments, the patient should not wax or pluck at all, and the hair should not be bleached. Shaving the day before treatment is advised.
You may experience some redness and an itching sensation can be experienced from 1-5 days after the treatment this is a natural histamine reaction.
Pre-paid treatments are valid for specific time periods based on the number of courses purchased:
Per session – 3 months
Course of 3 – 18 months
Course of 6 – 18 months
Course of 10 – 18 months
You can wear false tan in between your Laser treatments. All false tan must be removed from the skin 3 days prior to treatment. After your Laser treatment has been carried out, you should allow 3 days before re-applying false tan.
It is not recommended to have Laser Hair Removal treatments while pregnant or breastfeeding; however you can purchase any of our Special Offers and commence your treatments whenever you are ready.
Any bikini includes a Hollywood or Brazilian bikini. The bikini line covers the bikini line area only.
The ‘Full body’ includes areas from the collar bones down to the toes. We also have a combination package for the ‘Full body including full face’ and this includes the entire body.
You can have Laser hair removal carried out 5 days before you go on a holiday. After sun exposure, we cannot treat the skin for 4-12 weeks. This timeframe is case dependant for everyone. You must be at your natural skin tone to have your treatment carried out again.
Some people relate to it as a sensation of an elastic band flicking on the skin. We have a cooling system built into the machine which cools the area as the laser works, making it very comfortable for clients.
Your Laser Hair Removal therapist will explain the recovery and aftercare process, and at the end of each session they may apply aloe vera gel to treated areas, which can then be re-applied at home for two to three days following. During the initial period after treatment, the area may appear red, tender and slightly bumpy, which is perfectly normal. In very few cases, the skin tone may lighten or darken temporarily, or slight blistering may occur.
Immediate differences are not visible. Although the follicles have been damaged, the hairs appear to be still growing as the body ejects the hair left in the follicles. Hairs usually take between one and three weeks to work their way out.
Your hair has three different growth stages. For laser to work, we need the hair to be in the anagen stage which is the active stage of hair growth. However, only 1-30% of your hairs at any given time could be in the anagen stage. Every time you visit for your laser treatment, we are killing off a certain %, i.e. the hairs which are in the anagen stage.
We recommend you leave a minimum of 4-8 weeks between your treatment times initially; this depends on the area you are treating and your hair cycle. As the number of growing hairs begin to reduce, we space out your treatments further to ensure we always catch the hair in the correct stage of growth, the anagen stage.
Unfortunately, blonde, grey/white and red hair do not respond to laser hair removal treatment. The laser is attracted to the pigment in the hair and these hair colours do not produce any pigment so will not be effective.
Yes, all skin types are treatable at Thérapie Clinic as we only use medical-grade lasers with the most advanced technologies that allow us to do this safely and effectively.
Professional Laser Hair Removal vs Laser Hair Removal at Home:
The latest laser technology vs A scaled-down, small, hand-held device
The most powerful light energy vs A fraction of the light power than what is used in professional machinery
Advanced configurations for all skin colours and various hair colour combinations vs Only a small range of hair and skin colours are compatible with at-home laser hair removal devices.
A trained, skilled operative working under medical guidance vs You can hurt yourself if not using the device properly
A treatment course of 6 to 8 sessions, every 6 weeks vs 8 to 12 sessions either every 1 – 2 weeks
Virtually Pain Free vs IPL can be painful
Precise hair removal from hidden areas vs Some areas can be missed
90% of hair reduction vs About 70-80% of hair reduction
FDA approved vs Not all at-home hair removal devices are regulated by the FDA, so safety is not guaranteed.
Yes, it is safe to have laser hair removal if you have a tattoo. However, it is unsafe to laser directly over your tattoo. The area where you have your tattoo must be avoided for safety reasons. Tattoos must be covered completely by the Therapist before treatment is carried out. The protocol is 3 fingers width away from the tattoo to ensure maximum safety. Laser is designed to absorb into anything on the skin that contains dark pigment. Tattoos contain larger patches of pigment which will cause more heat to be absorbed by the laser. When laser is pulsed over the skin hair follicles are much smaller in size so the heat delivered by the laser will not be as destructive. This heat travels down the hair shaft and will destroy tiny cells at the base of the hair follicle. These interconnecting cells bring blood flow to the hair helping it to grow and if laser disables these hairs lose their blood supply and don’t regrow.

This treatment is known for its anti-ageing properties; from tightening and contouring sagging skin, to smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles, this skin rejuvenation technology is excellent for minimising the signs of ageing. It’s very popular to use this treatment to target the face, jowls, jawline, and neck. It is also excellent if you’re looking to improve the appearance of acne scars, micro-needling with radiofrequency energy is particularly effective.
Microneedling helps resurface the top layer of the skin, so it’s excellent for creating clearer, brighter, and more evenly toned skin. If you have active acne, however, you will not be eligible for treatment as the needles can spread bacteria from the acne and cause further breakouts. Radiofrequency microneedling is suitable for all skin tones and is the safest skin resurfacing option for people with Darker Fitzpatrick skin types. This treatment poses little to no risk of hypo or hyperpigmentation.
Fine lines
Wrinkles
Lax or mildly sagging skin
Rough or uneven skin texture
Large pores
Hyperpigmentation
Acne scarring
Stretch marks
Sun damage
Jowls
Radiofrequency microneedling uses microneedling in conjunction with radiofrequency energy to treat the deeper layers of the skin. Microneedling uses tiny needles to repeatedly puncture the surface of the skin, causing controlled trauma that triggers a wound healing response in the area that in turn stimulates your skin to produce collagen.
Meanwhile, radiofrequency energy is delivered beneath the surface layers of the skin, and this causes coagulation in the tissues that creates collagen remodelling. The combination of these two skin rejuvenation technologies allows this treatment to target both the upper and lower layers of the skin the epidermis and dermis.
This results in deeper remodelling in the lower layers of the skin which improves the resurfacing effects of microneedling. The depth of the radiofrequency energy delivered can be customised to reach different depths of the dermal layers to address your unique skin concerns with greater precision.
Advanced Electrolysis
This treatment doesn’t hurt most people. You might feel a short, sharp sting that is a little painful.
When it comes to treating skin problems like blood spots, milia, and skin tags, advanced electrolysis is one of the safest and least invasive options. An extremely thin, clean, one-time-use probe is put into the flaw, which heats it up and seals it off.
Before your treatment, you should let the clinic know about any medications you are taking or changes in your health. Do not use any products with retinol, acids, or exfoliants for 48 hours before your treatment. BHAs, AHAs, and PHAs are all in this group. If you are getting work done on your face, it is best if you don’t wear any makeup to your visit.
You will need a certain number of lessons based on how many lesions you want to fix. During your first appointment at our clinic, your therapist will be able to tell you more about this.
Feel free to get in touch if your skin flaw isn’t on the list. Electrolysis can be used to get rid of a lot of different skin problems. For some conditions, you may need more than one treatment.
The skin may look pink or a little swollen for 24 to 48 hours after treatment. On the face, the treated area will usually scab over or crust over and fall off in 5 to 21 days. On the body, it will take 2 to 5 weeks. The skin under the scab may be a little pink after it falls off.
For 48 hours after your visit, you shouldn’t work out or use heat treatments. To help it heal, keep the area clean and dry and use aloe vera on it often. Always put on SPF. You can lightly clean the area with a cleaner that doesn’t have a scent the next day.

We use a medical grade Q-Switch laser for tattoo removal. Tattoos are usually injected into the skin, and lie in the dermis, about 0.5 to 2.5mm below the surface. Because the tattoo ink becomes encapsulated in the collagen in your skin, the body’s natural defences are unable to remove it. Q-Switch laser tattoo removal treatment breaks up the collagen and the ink, so that the body’s defence system is able to attack and remove the tattoo.
Dermatologists acknowledge using an Active Q-Switch laser to remove unwanted multi-coloured tattoos as the ‘gold standard’ treatment – its efficacy and safety have been proved in numerous clinical trials, and outcomes are reliable with minimum risk of scarring.
Yes, we do!.
Like all body ink, eyebrow tattoos can be removed with laser technology.
Laser treatment can remove:
Permanent makeup
Cosmetic tattoos
Microblading
and more
Basically, it can remove any type of unwanted ink on or near your eyebrows. With a few pulses of laser light, your brow tattoos can be removed permanently.
There are a variety of reasons why people choose to get eyebrow tattoo removal treatment.
Did a face tattoo seem like a good idea a few years ago, but now you’re regretting it?
Were you thrilled by the prospect of microblading to fill in your sparse brows?
Did you think permanent makeup would save you hours of grooming, but your tattoo artist didn’t quite create your ideal shape?
Regardless of what your tattoos look like or why you got them, a few tattoo removal sessions can make them a thing of the past.
With R20 Tattoo Removal, the ‘R’ stands for repeating and the ’20’ stands for every twenty minutes. This method of tattoo removal enables our therapists to treat small black tattoos with one pass every twenty minutes, repeating four times in a single session. The result is a faster tattoo fading time than the conventional way.
Patients undergo an initial consultation before treatment. During the consultation your Laser Tattoo Removal expert will explain the treatment process, examine the tattoo to be removed and gather some medical history details. They will also answer any questions you may have regarding the process, and inform you of the likely number of treatments and costs to achieve optimum results. If you wish to proceed, you will be asked to sign a consent form and to undergo a test patch (the test patch will cost £20 which is then deductible from your treatment cost).
Patients must make sure that they do not have a suntan or are wearing fake tan on the area to be treated. In addition, patients can also apply numbing cream to the area an hour before treatment and wrap it in cling-film. Over-the-counter numbing creams can be purchased from chemists.
We use the award winning Lynton Laser’s Lumina for our laser tattoo removal treatments, a state-of-the-art medical grade machine utilising Q-Switched laser technology.
The patient can apply local anaesthetic cream approximately one hour before treatment begins, which can be purchased from a reputable chemist. Your therapist will explain in further detail and answer any questions during your initial consultation.
Most patients find laser tattoo removal treatment perfectly tolerable, likening it to hot pinpricks, or being flicked with a rubber band. To reduce discomfort, your therapist can provide a skin-cooling device, the Cryo 5, which can be used by you during treatment to direct cold air onto any specific area as required.
Your laser tattoo removal specialist will explain the recovery and aftercare process during treatment. But as a general guideline, for the first three days following laser tattoo removal treatment, patients are advised to drink lots of water. During this initial period, the treated area may appear whitened or red, tender and slightly swollen. Occasionally the skin may also form some slight grazing. In very few cases, the skin tone may lighten or darken, or slight blistering may occur.
To protect against infection, the treated area should be covered by a dressing if any bleeding occurs. For the first two weeks following treatment (the drying out period) the skin must be allowed to heal naturally. The tattoo will gradually fade as the defence system of the body works on it. In the period of three to five weeks after treatment, to help the body’s natural processes disperse the ink, patients are advised to massage the treated area with aloe vera on a daily basis – following which the next laser tattoo removal treatment will be due or the overall course will come to an end.
Over the long term, there is rarely any change in texture or scarring, although this is possible, particularly in cases where grazes and scabs are not left alone to heal. The treated area may also lose some of its natural ability to tan, but this normally returns in time.
Excellent results are expected, especially if patients follow the recovery and aftercare guidelines provided by the clinic and laser tattoo removal therapist.
The number of sessions needed to remove tattoos depends on the age, colour and density of the tattoo. Typically, professional tattoos can be removed in between six and twelve treatments, and amateur tattoos in between one and six treatments. Those planning to replace their tattoo with another may only require a few treatments. Note that individual treatment times vary depending on a variety of factors and treatments are usually booked six to ten weeks apart.
