What is the Filler and what it is made from?

Injectable filler is a soft tissue filler injected into the skin at different depths to help fill in facial wrinkles, provide facial volume, and augment facial features: restoring a smoother appearance. The filler is made from Hyaluronic acid which is a natural substance found in the body. Thinner, or less dense fillers are used for surface areas like lips, and thicker ones are injected deeper to plump cheeks or chin.

How long will the results last?

Depending on the type of Dermal Filler used it can last between 6 to 12 months. Duration depends on many factors, such as the individual’s skin type, skin condition lifestyle and age, metabolism, the amount of exercise they do regularly, the normal blood flow to the face and whether they smoke. For example, younger patients have a faster metabolism and increased blood flow to the face, and therefore their filler for example, may last at the shorter end of the normal scale and break down more readily. Other facial dermal fillers last longer, because other facial areas are not as mobile as the mouth, and as such fillers in these areas not broken down quite so quickly. There is no hard and fast rule to this, and everyone is different, which is important to remember. After the initial treatment, follow-up sessions are normally recommended around every 3 to 12 months depending on the individual and the treatment.

How old do I have to be for treatments?

All clients must be 18 or over at the time of the treatment. Anyone that looks under the age of 25 will be asked for ID.

What can I expect after the treatment?

Please remember we can only enhance our natural features. It is not possible to completely change them. Any treatment should be looked at as an improvement rather than a cure. It is not always possible to create the desired look if your facial anatomy does not allow. Please remember our faces are not symmetrical and sometimes no amount of filler can correct this – in some cases it may make it appear worse. Sometimes asymmetries in the lips are caused by muscle strength and tension – and not a lack of tissue itself, and this won’t be remedied by filler. Everyone is asymmetrical to a certain extent. Some lips respond better than others to filler, and there is no way of predicting this without injecting of course.

Why my filler has gone down sooner than expected?

Any injection can cause an inflammatory response. This can easily cause disappointment over the following weeks because as the swelling subsides, the treatment area may look significantly less plump than it looked immediately after injection. At Skinoza clinic and Academy we only use top brands. The filler has not dissolved nor disappeared; you have not wasted your money. The filler has simply sunken and formed a layer at the base of your treatment area. Many clients find they need two or three sessions to layer filler on top of one another – until the filler no longer has room to sink – leaving you with a fuller look.

What are the risks if getting fillers?

Severe complications from dermal fillers are uncommon. Potential risks vary depending on the specific filler used and the relative permanence of the filler substance and include: Acne-like skin eruptions Asymmetry Bleeding from the injection site Bruising Damage to the skin that results in a wound and possible scarring Infection at the injection site Lumps Palpability of the filler under the surface of the skin Skin rash with itching Skin redness Swelling It is important that you address all your questions directly with one of our practitioners. Although good results are expected from your procedure, there is no guarantee that you will be satisfied with your results. You will be asked to sign consent forms to ensure that you fully understand the procedure, as well as the risks and potential complications.

Can I have my treatment and the consultation on the same day?

Yes most of the treatments can be done straight after consultation.

I don’t know which treatment I require?

If you are not sure which treatment you need please don’t worry. Feel free to book an appointment for a consultation. It’s very common for people to change treatment during the consultation.

Will it hurt?

The discomfort is pretty minimal. We use a very strong numbing cream and local anaesthetic to numb the pain.

Is there any downtime?

You may initially be swollen, red and bruised which will subside within the next 1 – 14 days, especially if the bruising is extensive. Most people swell most the morning following treatment, but it quickly subsides, and the vast majority of patients report lip puffiness only for about 48 hours. How you react to the injections is often down to the individual. If you are prone to bruising, it would logically follow that your chances of doing so after this procedure, are elevated. It is not uncommon for the treatment area to remain swollen for up to two weeks. During this time the area may look very uneven, feel bumpy, bruised, discoloured and may feel sore. Please do not panic. It is normal during this period to not be entirely happy with your results. The final result will be apparent approximately 14 days after treatment.
